Job Description

Company Overview

Privately owned since 1904, TESCO provides innovative products and solutions to the electric utility industry and is the largest manufacturer in our market niche. We manufacture hundreds of products including utility consumables, test equipment, safety equipment, enterprise software and more. We have manufacturing facilities and offices in Ohio, Canada (for our Canadian customers), and the Philippines (for our Philippine and far eastern customers) with our headquarters and primary manufacturing site in Bristol, PA.

Job Overview

TESCO is seeking a hands-on engineering executive to lead software platform strategy and execution. As VP of Engineering, you will scale and mentor high-performing engineering teams while aligning product delivery with company goals.

You will lead 20+ professionals across software, DevOps, QA, firmware, and support. Your leadership will shape both execution and the evolution of the organization.

This role requires depth in distributed systems and platform integration, and the ability to empower senior technical talent. You will be a key voice in product direction, but your primary focus will be engineering execution, organizational growth, and delivery excellence.

Opportunity

· Serve as a key driver of TESCO’s transformation into a platform-oriented leader in the utility software space.

· Partner with senior leadership to scale our software business from embedded tools to a fully integrated analytics and services suite.

· Shape and execute a long-term roadmap to expand TESCO’s presence in a billion-dollar AMI and metering software market.

· Lead with a builder’s mindset, championing innovation across product delivery, platform modernization, and customer value.

· Participate in a performance-driven bonus and equity appreciation program aligned with long-term impact.

Responsibilities

· Lead and scale a multidisciplinary engineering organization, including software, DevOps, and firmware teams.

· Own the architecture and evolution of all TESCO software platforms, enabling secure, modern, and high-performing products.

· Guide execution of core platform initiatives across metering, analytics, and field systems

· Champion Agile practices and a strong engineering culture focused on quality, velocity, and impact.

· Align senior engineers, architects, and product leaders to a unified technical strategy.

· Inspire innovation across cloud, IoT, analytics, and AI capabilities to unlock new customer value.

· Drive platform modernization while balancing legacy systems integration and operational reliability.

· Lead cross-functional collaboration with product, hardware, and customer-facing teams.

· Stay close to industry trends and evolving customer needs to guide long-term differentiation.

· Attract, mentor, and retain top-tier engineering talent through a high-accountability, growth-minded culture.

· Serve as a key voice in strategic planning, translating company goals into executable engineering roadmaps.

Requirements

· 15+ years of experience in software engineering, including 10+ years leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex platforms at scale.

· Proven success delivering enterprise-scale platforms in mission-critical environments.

· Track record of attracting and empowering senior engineers and architects; experience mentoring future leaders.

· Technical fluency across modern cloud infrastructure (Azure IoT and/or AWS), scalable architecture, and legacy modernization.

· Strong foundation in the Microsoft technology ecosystem—spanning modern .NET (C#), Azure integration, and structured data services (e.g., SQL Server, SSRS)—combined with the ability to guide decisions involving both modern and legacy systems.

· Understanding of embedded systems and firmware development (a plus), and comfort working across hardware/software interfaces.

· Deep experience with Agile delivery models, DevOps culture, and continuous integration/delivery practices.

· Familiarity with utility workflows, AMI platforms, and customer-facing field systems.

· Skilled at navigating complexity and ambiguity, with a record of aligning stakeholders and delivering results.

· Strong academic or professional credentials that reflect rigor and learning agility.

Why TESCO?

TESCO is a rare combination of industry heritage and product reinvention. As the market leader in electric metering equipment, we are uniquely positioned to build the next generation of software-enabled platforms that directly impact how energy is measured and managed. You'll join a company that still moves fast, values long-term thinking, and is investing heavily in digital growth. Here, your contributions will matter—with recognition and rewards that reflect your impact.

Compensation & Benefits

· High-impact, performance-based compensation with substantial upside potential.

· Long-term equity appreciation plan aligned with business and individual contribution.

· Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans.

· Retirement benefits with 401(k) company match.

· Generous paid time off including vacation, holidays, and personal days.

· Additional support including tuition assistance and referral incentives.
