Job Description

Overview  

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced Medical Assistant to join our busy orthopedic surgery practice in Mill Valley, CA. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail-oriented, and takes pride in providing excellent patient care. The ideal candidate will be skilled in both clinical and administrative tasks, including phlebotomy, and will have the ability to provide office coverage in the Office Manager’s absence. 

Responsibilities  

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Greet and check in new and returning patients, verify insurance information, and update medical records. 
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures; obtain and record vital signs and medical histories. 
  • Perform phlebotomy and handle specimen collection and processing as needed. 
  • Assist providers with clinical procedures including splinting, casting, dressing changes, and suture removal. 
  • Schedule and coordinate patient diagnostics, referrals, and follow-up appointments (lab work, imaging, surgery, etc.). 
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, organization, and inventory of medical supplies. 
  • Prep electronic charts daily, ensuring all documentation, test results, and authorizations are complete and available before appointments. 
  • Review and upload patients on site imaging into appropriate software 

Administrative & Office Support 

  • Provide backup coverage for front desk and Office Manager, including patient check-in/out, phone triage, scheduling, and insurance verification. 
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with office protocols, HIPAA, and safety standards. 
  • Coordinate with billing and referral departments as needed to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate documentation. 
  • Ability to obtain prior authorizations, surgery, or MRI a bonus 

Qualifications  

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent experience required. 
  • Phlebotomy certification and experience required. 
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a medical office; orthopedic experience strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems (DrChrono). 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach. 
  • Dependable, organized, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively. 

Compensation & Schedule  

  • Full-time (40 hours/week) 
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday 
  • Pay: $25–$35 per hour (based on experience)
