Job Description

About the Company

Underwater Mechanix Services is a Jacksonville-based marine construction and commercial diving contractor delivering complex, high-stakes infrastructure solutions across the Southeast. We operate in high-visibility, high-risk environments where precision, discipline, and adaptability are non-negotiable. Our teams support critical infrastructure, bridges, piers, seawalls, dams, power plants, waterfront facilities, and industrial marine assets, for federal, municipal, utility, and private clients.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused Commercial Diver to join our marine construction team. This role involves surface-supplied diving in support of underwater construction activities including welding, burning, rigging, inspections, demolition, and installation work. You must be comfortable working in zero-visibility water, around heavy equipment, and under strict safety and quality protocols. When not in the water, you’ll support the dive team topside as an integral member of the crew.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surface-supplied dives in support of marine construction and inspection projects
  • Execute underwater tasks including cutting, welding, burning, jetting, rigging, and formwork installation
  • Conduct inspections, measurements, and photographic/video documentation of underwater structures
  • Safely operate hydraulic and pneumatic tools and other diving-related equipment underwater
  • Work topside as part of the dive team when not diving (tending, deck support, equipment handling, etc.)
  • Help maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot diving gear to ensure compliance with ADCI and UMX standards
  • Strictly adhere to all safety regulations, including OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, and company policies
  • Participate in JHAs, toolbox talks, pre-dive briefings, and debriefings
  • Assist with mobilization and demobilization of dive spreads, barges, and marine construction equipment
  • Accurately complete dive logs, reports, and project-specific safety and quality documentation

Qualifications

  • ADCI or equivalent commercial diver certification
  • Valid First Aid, CPR, and O2 Administration certifications; HAZMAT awareness training preferred
  • TWIC card or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment dive physical and drug screening
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work extended hours, nights, or weekends as project demands
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, low/zero visibility, and hazardous marine environments
  • Strong work ethic, team mindset, and commitment to safety

Required Skills

  • Experience on USACE, NAVFAC, DOT, or utility marine construction projects
  • Topside experience in rigging, welding, formwork, carpentry, or heavy equipment operation
  • Familiarity with Kirby Morgan helmets, hydraulic tools, and surface-supplied air systems
  • Training or familiarity with EM 385-1-1, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures

Pay range and compensation package

  • Competitive hourly wage + overtime
  • Per diem for out-of-town/travel assignments
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid holidays and PTO
  • Opportunities for advancement, specialty training, and increased responsibility within the dive and marine construction teams
