Assistant General Manager – New Restaurant Opening

Full-Time | On-Site | Lower East, NYC

Our client, an exciting new restaurant concept launching in the East Village, is seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant General Manager (AGM) to join their leadership team. The AGM will play a pivotal role in overseeing daily operations, supporting staff development, and upholding operational excellence from pre-opening through day-to-day execution.

Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for supporting the General Manager in all aspects of restaurant operations, including staff supervision, guest experience, financial performance, and maintaining brand standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is service-driven, operationally sound, and highly collaborative. This individual will be key to cultivating a high-performance team culture and ensuring a consistently excellent dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily service and shift execution to ensure a high level of guest satisfaction
  • Lead, train, and support front-of-house team members to maintain service and hospitality standards
  • Partner with the General Manager on hiring, scheduling, and performance management
  • Actively participate in floor management, including guest interactions, table visits, and conflict resolution
  • Collaborate with kitchen and bar teams to ensure seamless coordination during service
  • Monitor inventory, ordering, and cost controls to achieve financial goals
  • Assist with administrative duties including payroll, reporting, and compliance
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards in accordance with health regulations
  • Support marketing initiatives, local community outreach, and guest retention efforts
  • Help drive a positive workplace culture with high morale and low turnover

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a restaurant management role, preferably in a full-service or upscale dining environment
  • Proven success in team leadership, service operations, and guest satisfaction
  • Experience with restaurant openings is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations, cost control, and scheduling
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle high-volume service with composure
  • Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Proficiency with POS systems and back-office software (scheduling, inventory, reporting)
